About
Venerable Gangodawila Chandima is a First Class honours graduate from the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, Sri Lanka. In 2008, He was awarded the Sri Soratha Gold medal award for the highest percentage scores at Faculty of Arts, University of Jayawardenepura He has scored 39 A’s out of a possible 40 in exams for his Bachelor’s degree.
He has also, within the space of two years, authored 20 different pieces, including four books-the rather surprising fact about which is that 14 out of them happen to be in English (where arguably he could have done better in his native Sinhalese), and 8 out of these he has made freely available to other via the Internet. His areas of expertise are amongst others Buddhist Sanskrit, Hinduism and Mahayana Philosophy, and Buddhist Sanskrit Poetics.
All this throws into sharp relief what is most important about this y young person; his potential, his innate zest, his unflinching eagerness to forge ahead. He does not come from a privileged background; he had to learn English and Computer skills mostly by his own efforts and certainly due to his grasp of their value to a career of scholarship. He has had to face innumerable hurdles, some of which are inherent in the surrounding culture-but he would not be deterred.
His working carrier in the academia consists of a Visiting lecturer post at the Department of Sanskrit of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka from February 2009 to June 2009 and a Temporary Tutor post of the Department of Languages and Cultural Studies of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka from August 2009 to August 2010.
Ven.Chandima is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at the Faculty of Graduate Studies of the University of Sri Jayewaradenepura in Sri Lanka. He is also the Buddhist Chaplain at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
